Join Slow Food Portland at Woodburn’s Farmworker Housing Development Corporation (FHDC) to meet local immigrant farmworker families, join them in conversation, learn about their lives, and share a potluck lunch. This event continues the Slow Food series on the People Who Feed Us.
FHDC is an Oregon-based organization taking an innovative approach to caring for the immigrants who are often forgotten or ignored in discussions of our local foodways. Their mission is to “develop farmworker leadership for stronger and more secure families and communities through affordable housing, social services, education and economic development.”
Participants will spend the day learning about FHDC and the families they serve, as well as exploring ways in which we might be able to help. The group will be joined by representatives from a few of Portland’s organizations who are similarly dedicated to making the food we eat as Fair as possible.
