Edible Portland was honored at our recent annual Edible Communities publishers meeting when it was announced that we were the recipient of two 2009 EDDY Awards for publishing excellence and six runner-up awards.

Edible Portland was awarded an EDDY for the feature Putting the Horse Back into Horsepower, by Zoë Bradbury, in the category of Best Editorial — Political or Social Issue Coverage.

We also won an EDDY for Best Website or Electronic Feature for our online videos (a collaboration with Cooking Up A Story) and Diary of a Young Farmer, which chronicles life on the farm through the eyes of a new farmer in Southern Oregon.

Runner-up EDDY Awards went to Edible Portland for:
Great Galettes, by Piper Davis (best use of recipes)
Back of the House: Fife’s Very Short Supply Chain, by Ivy Manning (best editorial-short)
Teen Works (best editorial spread or layout)
• Portland Public Schools’ “Harvest of the Month” campaign (best ad or ad campaign)
• Burgerville ad (also for best ad or ad campaign)
In My Life I Loved Them All; Recipe File Holds Memories, by Heidi Yorkshire (best editorial-historical)
Edible Poetry: Recipe, by Kristin Berger (best last page)

EDDY awards are an annual competition in which the Edible Communities publishing company honors outstanding writing, photography and marketing ideas from its family of magazines. View all 2009 EDDY award winners here.

Entries are judged by a panel of outside experts from the food and publishing worlds. This year, an editorial team from Saveur served as judges.
